It’s been almost 2 weeks since I finished my 2 days of volunteering at this year’s Remote Area Medical event at Cal Expo. This was the second year that I spent 2 days in the dental clinic seeing patient after patient to provide free dental care.
Last year I worked in the screening clinic which moved fast and required me to see several hundred patients in the morning to triage and assess their most urgent needs. The clinic provides extractions, ... [Continue Reading ->]

I’m starting to notice a trend. And it’s kind of a weird one.
Looking through the pages of fashion magazines I see more and more models with a gap between their two front teeth. What is this obsession? Lauren Hutton popularized the gap-tooth look in the 70s and it’s gone in and out of style since then.
The current “gap tooth IT girl” is Lara Stone and she is everywhere. See her in all her gap-toothed glory here: http://models.com/models/Lara-Stone

January has been a bit of a rollercoaster month for us here at the office. As some of our patients already know, we installed a digital x-ray system, along with 2 computer monitors in every treatment room. We had a few bumpy weeks of x-rays getting “lost” and computers shutting down, but now I can say with confidence that we are becoming a digital office!
The transition is exciting: digital x-rays have better clarity, more contrast and use less radiation ... [Continue Reading ->]

Just had a great day in the office, mostly due to the nice people I got to treat and chat with throughout the day. I’m lucky to have fantastic staff members who are good at their jobs and care deeply about the work they do. But I’m also lucky to have a fantastic pool of patients. Everyday I enjoy getting up and going to work knowing that I’ll spend my time with nice, genuine and interesting people. I always learn ... [Continue Reading ->]
A lot of people ask my why I would ever become a dentist. In their minds a dentist has to look at and work on teeth all day, so what could be interesting or attractive about that? Well, in addition to being able to run my own business, work with my hands, and meet and chat with interesting and nice people all day, I also get to change people’s lives for the better.
About 6 months ago I suggested to ... [Continue Reading ->]
