Dental contouring, also known tooth reshaping, is a treatment option that works to improve the appearance of your smile. The process involves removing small amounts of tooth enamel to change the overall shape of the tooth. Contouring works to improve the look and shape of the tooth as it fits in the mouth.
If you have small chips in your teeth, rough areas, or one tooth that is slightly too long, contouring may be a good choice for you.
Dental contouring is also used in conjunction with dental bonding to sculpt the tooth (or teeth).
Procedure
The tooth reshaping treatment can be completed in one visit. Special dental instruments and techniques for abrasion are applied to the teeth that are going to be reshaped. Following the initial reshaping process, a special dental sanding device is used to eliminate imperfections. At the end of the procedure, the teeth are smoothed and polished.
