Why Do I Get Canker Sores?
Canker sores are an autoimmune response to some sort of stress. In English, when you body comes in contact with a trigger, the canker sore develops as a response. What are the triggers? Well, in some people its stress. In others, it’s food. Citrus fruits, spicy foods, walnuts and strawberries have all been proven to cause canker sores. Another trigger is Cinnamon flavored things—gum, candy, mouth rinse, even toothpaste. Many people are allergic to the artificial flavoring.
How to treat a canker sore? Well, you usually will want it to run its course. It will take anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks to go away, but it always will. Avoid your “triggers” during this time. If it’s really painful and not going away, see your dentist. There is a treatment called Debacterol that can be used in the office or a prescription for an ointment can be given.
